Here are some frequently asked questions to provide you with some additional information you may be wondering about.


I’m ready to start counseling, how long until I can get an appointment?
You are typically able to schedule an appointment within 1-2 weeks. The largest factor is your availability for an appointment. If you are available for the next available appointment, you are usually able to schedule an appointment quickly. If you need a specific day or time, you may have to wait longer.

What is a free 15-minute consultation?
A consultation is an opportunity to schedule a time to ask questions, meet the counselor, and schedule an intake appointment. The day of your consultation, the therapist will call you at the scheduled time. Consultations are optional and not required.

How long will I be in therapy?
Your therapy journey is uniquely yours. It is a partnership between you and your counselor. It depends on your goals, personal commitment, and how you progress towards your goals. Some individuals will seek therapy with a short term goal in mind, attend therapy for a few weeks or months and feel secure in their decision to end therapy. While others have multiple goals of therapy and may be in therapy long-term. Your therapist retains the right to discontinue or terminate therapy at her discretion.

How often will my appointments be?
Therapy is typically scheduled for once a week, but can vary. If you are in a crisis, you would most likely be scheduled for two times a week. If you are interested in starting therapy, but have a busy schedule, we could discuss therapy being every other week.

Do I need a referral for an appointment?
You do not need a referral. You can call the counseling office and request an appointment. If you have insurance you would like to use, make sure you know what your behavioral health coverage is and ask if your insurance is accepted when you call. It’s also important for you to know what your annual deductible is and the date that is resets each year, this can affect how much of the cost is your responsibility.

Is my therapy confidential?
Therapists are required by law to protect the confidentiality of communication between you and your therapist. Information will not be released without your written permission, with the exception of sharing information that you are involved with child abuse, elder abuse, dependent or disabled adult abuse, harm of yourself or others, or a court subpoena. These areas require therapists to make a report and or provide information.

What if I need to cancel a therapy appointment?
If you need to cancel your appointment, please cancel with 24 or more hours notice. If you cancel within less then 24 hour notice, you will be charged a $75 late cancellation fee.

What do I need to have for a teletherapy session?
Internet, an electronic device, and a confidential space. Some client’s also use headphones or earbuds to hear well and easily focus. The ideal location for you to be in for your session is somewhere you feel comfortable and safe. A space free of distractions, providing you the ideal space to be able to truly focus on your therapy. Some client’s also like to have a journal to take notes and write down reflections during their session.
